I am delighted to welcome you to the 12th International Energy Forum and the 4th International Energy Business Forum, to be held simultaneously in Cancun.
Facing a complicated global economy, energy markets have recently experienced price volatility and reduced long-term investment plans. Decisive strategies are needed to improve transparency and address uncertainties. As leaders in the energy sector, we must find ways to build bridges of cooperation between developed and developing countries. Honored to be the host of these Forums, Mexico is committed to dialogue and eager to participate in this unique opportunity to reach a common standpoint to further policy coordination.

We have a challenging agenda before us that seeks to address the most pressing energy problems we share: the decline in known energy reserves, the rise in the cost of energy resources, the imperative of addressing energy poverty, and the threat of the effects of global warming, to mention a few. Your presence in these events reinforces our mutual commitment to achieve a fruitful dialogue between energy producers and consumers. This dialogue is essential for the harmonious and efficient operation of the world’s energy markets.
I am confident that by listening to the first-hand knowledge of your own nations’ situation and expectations, drawing upon each country’s technical expertise, understanding the complex interdependencies in energy markets, and -above all- through mutual good will, we are certain to conclude this meeting with concrete results of which we can feel proud of.
